Church Office Bearers
ALISON FENTON - SESSION CLERK
Alison Fenton, as Session Clerk, is the official record keeper of the church. Her role involves preparing for Kirk Session meetings and making all the appropriate arrangements for Communion services. She liases with the conveners of the church action groups and generally supports the Minister and work of the Kirk Session.
IAIN GRIMMOND - TREASURER
The main duties of the Treasurer are to maintain the financial records of the congregation and produce annual accounts. Iain ensures that income is collected and authorised payments are made promptly. He prepares budgets and reports on financial matters to the finance committee and Kirk Session. The Treasurer liases with the fabric committee on the funding of both regular maintenance and major projects. Finally, he also monitors Giffnock South’s bank accounts and investments.
JAN McINNES - CHURCH SECRETARY
As Secretary, Jan runs the church office, handles the administrative responsibilities and provides a wide range of support to the Finance team, Fabric group, Session Clerk, church groups, Kirk Session , our Minister and also Pollokshaws church. She is often the first point of contact by phone or in person for visitors and newcomers to the church. As such, Jan is a very important part of our church’s public image and outreach.
CLIVE BELL - COMMUNICATIONS
Clive is responsible for updating the church website and liases with the website maintenance company.
ALISTAIR PARK - SENTINEL EDITOR
Alistair is Editor of the church magazine ‘The Sentinel’. He gathers in all the latest news about everything connected to Giffnock South, from a monthly message from our Minister to items about our many and varied church and outside groups. Alistair and his small, hard-working team produce a superb magazine that is read avidly by all the congregation and which is now also available on our new church website.
BRENDA WILLIAMS - HALLS CONVENER
The Halls Convener deals firstly with people considering using our halls, issues application forms and makes bookings on the church Google calendar. Brenda has to liase with the Church secretary who issues contracts and receives payments from hall users. Finally, Brenda deals with any queries from halls users and communicates with the Fabric convener to ensure the halls are in suitable condition for our users.
HUGH CAMPBELL - ASSISTANT SESSION CLERK
The principal role of the Assistant Session Clerk is to record and produce minutes of the Kirk Session meetings and to assist the Minister and Session Clerk in their various duties.
ELAINE CLARKE - EVENTS CONVENER
Elaine Clarke and her Events team organise and facilitate many of the events in our church calendar. They also help other organisations such as the Guild and Community Choir run their events and liase with local schools when they use our church halls for fundraising nights. The work of the Events group brings not only our members together but reaches out to the wider community in fellowhip and friendship.
Our Presbytery Elder Alastair Forrester represents Giffnock South at the monthly meetings of Glasgow Presbytery and reports on Presbytery Meetings to Kirk Session
RICHARD SCHOLFIELD - ORGANIST
Richard is a student of The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, working towards a Bachelor of Music degree in classical saxophone. In his time at the RCS, he has performed saxophone concertos with the RCS Wind Orchestra and the Kelvin Ensemble, and was the youngest of four finalists in the 2017 RCS Concerto Competition. Alongside his degree and his work at Giffnock South, he directs the Clarkston Community Choir at Greenbank Church and frequently works as an accompanist for many students sitting music exams.
The organist and choir leader is responsible for looking after the choir and supplying music for various services and events within the church. Richard takes the choir’s rehearsals each Thursday night, selecting and teaching the anthems and introits for upcoming Sunday worship. He accompanies the singing at Sunday worship on the organ and piano, also playing incidental music where required.
WILLIE DUNBAR - FABRIC CONVENER
The remit of the fabric team is to ensure that our halls and buildings are well maintained and to develop a programme of maintenance and renewal of church fabric. The fabric team liases with contractors to obtain budget estimates for works. The team also oversees church fire regulations and ensures appropriate insurance policies are in place.
